July Good Health Tips, by Shawna Good, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach

Summer is here and the gardens are bountiful! Along with the glorious flower essences, Spirit has been directing us to eat live foods to keep our bodies “green and light”.  Fresh green vegetables, shoots and sprouts, fresh water with citrus and don’t forget your Hibiscus tea! It’s great as iced tea with a splash of lemon or a sprig of fresh mint!

Often when it comes to diet, we sometimes get anxious over the things we have to give up in order to feel as if we’re being healthy. Instead of focusing on this aspect, I like to focus my clients in on what they can ADD.

One of the easiest places to start adding in all this green is with green juice. I would like to challenge you for 1-week to add in one green juice a day to your diet and see how it makes you feel. Fear not, if you are without juicer, blender or Bullet, there are many wonderful pressed juice options in the store these days (look for juice only, no added sweeteners!). You can also do it as simply as a glass of water or coconut water with an added teaspoon of Spirulina.

This is one of my favorite basic recipes you can start with:

GOOD GREEN

  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 ribs celery
  • 2 green apples
  • 8 leaves kale
  • 2 leaves romaine
  • 1⁄2 lemon
  • 1” ginger (or to taste)

Peel lemon and ginger, wash all ingredients, run thru your juicer and enjoy!
